New Support For Chairs And Vice Chairs Of AIM Member Museums

Chairs or Vice Chairs on the boards of AIM member museums In England, Wales and Scotland can now access support through new AIM partnerships with the Association of Chairs and ACOSVO (the Association of Chief Officers of Scottish Voluntary Organisations).

For members in England and Wales, AIM has agreed to fund 30 free one-year memberships of the Association of Chairs, to give museum Chairs or Vice Chairs the chance to benefit from the support available from the AoC.

The memberships will be open on a first-come, first-served basis to chairs of AIM member museums with an income of less than £5m a year. Only one person (either the Chair or Vice Chair) will be eligible per organisation.

“We’ve had great feedback from museum Chairs who have attended AoC events and we know that meeting other chairs can be a great source of inspiration and support. We’re delighted to extend that opportunity to more AIM members.” Helen Wilkinson, Assistant Director, Association of Independent Museums (AIM)

“The role of Chair is vitally important to the success of independent museums, so we are delighted to offer Chairs of AIM members this excellent support that is tailored for their role.” Emma Chaplin, Director, Association of Independent Museums (AIM)

For our members in Scotland

For members in Scotland, AIM will be supporting chairs of museums to connect with the support open through ACOSVO (the Association of Chief Officers of Scottish Voluntary Organisations). ACOSVO has recently launched a chair’s network to support chairs of voluntary sector organisations in Scotland and is planning a series of events for 2019. AIM would be pleased to support any chairs of member museums in Scotland who wish to attend one of the events with a training grant for travel and the event fees.

Topics covered in the ACOSVO Chairs’ Network programme for 2019 include: Being an Effective Chair, Board and Staff Communication and Trustee Recruitment. The events take place in Edinburgh and Glasgow and include early evening and breakfast meetings.

ACOSVO are currently exploring ways of expanding their offer for Chairs of voluntary organisations and AIM hopes to be able to work with them more extensively in future to support members in Scotland. If you have any questions about how AIM can help our members in Scotland, please email: helenw@aim-museums.co.uk

AIM will soon be releasing a new members survey, so if you are based in Scotland, please do share ideas with us about how we can better support you.

To apply for support to attend an ACOSVO Chair’s network event, please complete AIM’s training grant application form available to download on our grants page at:
