Who Are Your History Makers?
Celebrate your museum’s historical figures with a grant of up to £75,000 through the AIM Biffa Award ‘History Makers – People who shaped our world’ programme which is now open for Round 4 of funding applications.
The programme is a partnership between Biffa Award and AIM and it supports AIM member museums in England by funding new exhibitions that will inspire the public through the lives and achievements of extraordinary, historical figures who have made a significant impact on the industrial, creative industries and arts, scientific, commercial or social history of the UK, helping to shape the world we live in today.
The lives of these History Makers can inspire a new generation with the qualities behind their successes, such as ingenuity, bravery, persistence, endeavour, imagination and insight…so tell the world about them!
We want the funded exhibitions to be inspiring and exciting – especially for young people studying STEAM subjects – and we are especially keen to hear about exhibitions that would feature:
- female history makers
- notable people from the 20th century
- people that have made a positive impact in the different and diverse communities of England
Grants cover both capital and revenue expenditure and you will receive full support from AIM in promoting your project.
A maximum of 10% of the grant can be used for supporting work such as, site based education resources or publicity material and creating content for the History Makers website. Up to 5% project management costs can be included within the 10% additional project costs.
Exhibitions/interpretation funded by History Makers must be fully accessible to the public for a minimum of 104 days per year.

About The Funders
About Biffa Award
Since 1997, Biffa Award has awarded grants totalling more than £175million to thousands of worthwhile community and environmental projects across England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. The programme administers money donated by Biffa Group Ltd through the Landfill Communities Fund. www.biffa-award.org
About The Landfill Communities Fund
The Landfill Communities Fund (LCF) is an innovative tax credit scheme enabling operators (LOs) to contribute money to organisations enrolled with ENTRUST as Environmental Bodies (EBs). EBs use this funding for a wide range of community and environmental projects in the vicinity of landfill sites. LOs are able to claim a credit (currently 4.2%) against their landfill tax liability for 90% of the contributions they make. Since its inception in 1996, over £1.4 billion has been spent on more than 51,000 projects across the UK. For further information please visit www.entrust.org.uk or see HMRC’s general guide to landfill tax.
