Good governance is key to well-run, successful museums yet being a trustee can sometimes feel daunting. AIM’s range of dedicated support, practical guidance and inspiration is designed to help you and your Board in this critical area and has been developed with input from colleagues and experts from right across the sector.

Successful Museum Governance>> – a guide for trustees is a great place to start if you are a new museum trustee or a Board member looking to refresh your knowledge.
It provides advice on establishing and consolidating good governance practice, outlines the requirements of regulatory compliance and how to best strengthen Board practice, offering practical guidance on key areas including roles and responsibilities, managing board meetings, working with staff and volunteers and recruitment and succession planning. It also helpfully signposts important resources for trustees.
This guide is intended for new trustees of museums and heritage organisations who are not familiar with the museums and heritage sector.
